Hi, my name is Mike Humphries, I’m the Media Relations Manager for Springfield Armory. We are here at Shot Show in Las Vegas. And I want to talk to you about the Springfield Echelon pistol. Now, I will be very frank with you. Introducing a full-size, striker fired 9mm pistol into this market, a little daunting. Seems like a new one comes out every week. So we decided we had to do something really innovative with this gun to really make it stand out. But we didn’t do just that.

We did A BUNCH of innovative things with it, and why don’t we just go ahead and dive into that and talk about the details, and I’m going to save my favorite feature for last. They’re all cool. But I will save my favorite for last. So first and foremost, what I want to talk about is the central operating group, which is a chassis system within the gun. That is the serialized part of the gun and is effectively and legally THE gun. That means that this entire polymer grip module is replaceable. You can buy additional parts and swap it on there because the chassis IS the firearm. The gun comes with a medium size. We also offer it in small and large. We offer it with adaptive grip texture like the original Hellcat.

We also offer with an aggressive texture, which is basically a skateboard tape, much more aggressive texture. So you can fit this gun to your exact fit for your hand. In addition to those multiple grip module sizes, each of those grip modules comes with three interchangeable backstraps: small, medium, and large, so you can further adapt this gun to your hand. So we are talking about a highly modular, highly adaptable design. On top of that, this gun has an extremely low bore axis and has excellent ergonomics. I want to point out the slide because the slide has some very distinctive cuts on it. It has racking points back here for getting ahold of it. It also has forward racking point right here in addition to, you know, the more common forward-cocking serrations and rear slide serrations. So basically you have highly enhanced ergonomics on the slide of this pistol for the best handling, combined with a very low bore axis. And once you get the right grip module and right back strap for it, the gun sits very tight and low in your hand. Makes it very easy to shoot well. Now that I mentioned that there was one particular innovation that’s my favorite and that’s called a variable interface system. If we were to take this plate, the slide cover off of here, you would see a variety of holes drilled into the top of this slide, and pins that you can move around. The reason that that is there is because we were looking at it and we’re going, “Okay, well if you put this up you going to need this plate, if you put that up you’re going to need that plate, oh wait, you need these types of screws? Oh, do they have to be this certain depth? Wait a second, why don’t we just skip all that and make it adaptable to all the optics?” So this system is designed to direct mount more than thirty of the most popular Red Dot Optics out there such as the Trijicon RMR, DeltaPoint Pro, so on and so forth, just by rearranging the order of the pins, You can direct mount those Optics to the slide, which means not only have you removed potential failure point, you remove parts, and you’re low-mounting the optic enough that you can co-witness the iron sights too many of those optics, which is just nothing but advantage. I call it the skeleton key to the Optics world. People who know a lot about guns and deal with hand guns a lot don’t like dealing with mounting a red dot. Can you imagine being a new gun owner and trying to figure this out? The variable interface system was designed to simplify this and make it as easy as possible. And it’s what I think is, out of all the innovative features of the Echelon, one of the most innovative features.

So, as you can tell, I’m pretty excited about this gun. I think I’ve touched on all of the points on it, and details. But if you want to learn more about it, be sure to go to Springfield-Armory.com. And if you’re looking to purchase one, be sure to go to GunBroker.com and pick one up for yourself.
