Jay shares his Barrett Rifles at Big Sandy Machine Gun Shoot 2023, a great place to come out and exercise a couple of long range guns. The Barrett MRAD SMR is a single mission rifle version of the MRAD. It’s an evolution of Barrett’s 98 Bravo, Bolt Action gun. This MRAD SMR shoots a 230-grain projectile and is using a new cartridge, a 300 Norma mag, it is really optimized for long range and very low drag, around a thousand yards or more. On the MRAD SMR we are running a NightForce optic, 5.5 to 22 power, with plenty of internal adjustments, and a Dead Air Nomad-L suppressor. Barrett also sells muzzle devices that work well specific to their systems that thread on to the original brake, it’s easy to spin off the muzzle brake, put a new one on, index it and try different suppressors. As far as volume, that’s where the Barrett 82A1 really shines. This guy is in 50 BMG, a much bigger projectile, a 650 grain bullet, 2900 feet per second. A semi auto that shoots 10 rounds out of a mag. This thing is really made for just hard targets, shooting a variety of ammunition. It’s kind of like a portable version of an M2 machine gun.
