Designed with the new S&W® TEMPO™ two-part barrel system, with a fire control system that is like no other. Internally hammer-fired but also gas-operated with a locked breech, allowing the bullet to pass the gas port before the barrel cams open. This new design ensures repeatable and consistent extraction and overall firearm reliability.

What Makes the S&W M&P® 5.7 Different?

The ballistically-superior 5.7x28mm cartridge looks and performs very differently from the 9mm Luger cartridge it competes with. As opposed to the 9mm, the 5.7x28mm is a bottlenecked-style centerfire cartridge, a closer cousin to rifle ammo than the straight-walled cartridges the vast majority of handguns are chambered in. With all of the firepower behind the 5.7x28mm round, it hasn’t always gotten the best track record for reliability. Containing the gasses that come with a higher velocity of 5.7x28mm is a challenge for even the best of engineers, so S&W® brought the S&W® TEMPO™ two-part barrel system to compensate for the unique challenges that 5.7x28mm semiautos present.

S&W® M&P® 5.7 Grip & Magazine:

The slim and well-textured grip of the M&P 5.7 is designed around the shape and size of the 5.7x28mm cartridge, boasting a generous 22+1 magazine capacity where a comparably-sized 9mm would only hold up to 15 rounds. This grip design allows for a firm and even feel in your hand and gives plenty of room to comfortably reach the single-action flat-face trigger. It also incorporates an ambidextrous slide stop and reversible magazine release. Every S&W® M&P® 5.7 includes two (2) 22-round magazines.

Adding to the reliability and firepower, the M&P 5.7 brings additional features that they incorporate for superior performance, firepower, and smooth functioning. The 5” threaded barrel features a 1/2×28 thread pitch with an included muzzle protector. The lightweight slide has dual mill cust along the top, reciprocating quickly and smoothly for faster and more consistent follow-up shots. They come optics-ready with metal white dot sights and Picatinny style rail for a nearly endless variety of sight and light/laser options. Forward and rear slide serrations allow you to quickly work the action, no matter your grip style.

The barrel and slide are made of stainless steel with an Armornite® finish, used on many S&W® and M&P® products to impart a high level of protection internally and externally where applied. Armornite® Finish is a hardened-nitride finish that provides enhanced corrosion resistance, greatly improved wear resistance, decreased surface roughness, reduced light reflection, and increased surface lubricity.
