Hi, my name is Mike Humphries, I’m Media Relations Manager for Springfield Armory. We are here at the Las Vegas Shot Show and I want to talk to you about the new Springfield TRP 1911 which we launched about a week and a half ago. This is absolutely brand new, a lot of excitement about this.

You’re probably familiar with what the TRP is, it stands for Tactical Response Pistol, but I’ll give a little bit of a history just for some context in case you don’t. Springfield Armory’s Custom Shop developed a pistol called the Professional Model for the FBI. It was used by their Regional SWAT teams and ultimately by their HRT (Hostage Rescue Team). It was a full house custom gun, pretty expensive. Springfield Armory decided that it wanted to offer a more consumer-level version of that kind in a more reasonable attainable price point, but with a lot of the features and characteristics and performance of that professional model.  That pistol was the TRP 1911 and it was a huge hit! It’s been available since the 90s, and it offered a semi-custom gun at a great price. As I mentioned, it’s been around since the 90s, so it’s been around for a long time. We decided it was time for a refresh so we decide to take a look at the classic TRP. Keep what was great, add some new features, make it even better, modernize it a little bit. What resulted was six new versions of the gun. Now, I have four of them right here with me and I’m going to talk about two of the other ones as well.

Let’s talk about the TRP first, there are two models. It is a 5-inch all steel gun and a four and a quarter inch all steel gun – they are all black. The upgrades to all of the TRPs include HYDRA G10 Grips by VZ Grips. Those are on all the models we’re going to talk about, in addition we put a serrated siding plane along the top in addition to the Tactical rack three-dot Tritium sights. One thing I also want to mention is that every TRP has hand-paired slides and frames. At the beginning, they are checked for fit so they find ones that fit the best together, and those are numbered and kept together for the entire manufacturing process. Those are forged parts too for strength and durability.

So you’re getting a gun with a hand fit attention, a lot of attention to detail, basically a semi-custom gun. Now there’s two classic models, those guns are the most reminiscent of the original TRP pistol. MSRP on those pistols is $1899.

Now what I have here behind me are the other four models that are available as well. So why don’t we start over here? We’re going to talk about the Rail Model. We have it in Black and Coyote Brown. This is an all-steel 5-inch gun with a picatinny rail on the dust cover. As is the case with the classic Model, It has what you would expect it has the two-piece extended and flared Magwell for feeding mags quickly and easily. That’s on this Rail model and the classic Model. It also has the 20 line per inch checkering on the front strap for which the TRP is known for and those other upgrades and features that I told you about. This gun, again available in Black and Coyote Brown, has an MSRP of $1999.

Now I’m going to move on to the last two versions. They’ve all been going very well, and developing a lot of interest. These I think have generated the most interest from what I’ve seen. We had the carry Contour models, there are two of those. There is a Black and a Coyote Brown. What’s unique about these if you were here you pick it up you would know immediately. These guns have an aluminum frame for lightweight. They have a carry Contour cut at the base here to make it easier to conceal in addition to that. They have a four and a quarter inch slide. Otherwise, they have all the features and upgrades that the other TRPs have. The one change apart from the things I mentioned, is it does not have the extended flared Magwell because of its carry Contour cut. There is an advantage to that though, because it does have funnels cut into the standard magwell. And there is an advantage here because that shortens the length. The longer length of Magwell would make the gun a little more difficult to conceal.

So what makes the carry Contour model so interesting is that we’ve taken a duty grade TRP pistol with a long proven tradition and we downsized it and lightened it and made it ideal for conceal carry. And again this one like the Rail Models has an MSRP of $1999.

So this is one of the most exciting bits of news here at SHOT show this year. We’re very excited about getting a lot of positive feedback.
