Browning Bar | Big Sandy Machine Gun Shoot 2023

Chris at Big Sandy with some history on the Browning BAR 1918. The Browning automatic rifle (BAR), automatic rifle was produced in the United States starting in 1918 and widely used in other countries as a light machine gun. The BAR is a gas-operated rifle and is the step in between the full World War II adaptation and the actual World War I adaptation, the biggest change being the bipod right at the end of the barrel. The gun was used in a new tactic called Walking fire, it mixed the idea of pushing you to advance and bringing the machine guns with you except the machine guns don’t weigh 80 pounds, they weigh 20 pounds. This was more widely adopted with the show shot rifles that the French had used. The older BAR variant fires around 700 rounds a minute and with 20 rounds that goes quick. The World War II variants hover around 500 rounds per minute. Faster is always better especially when the guns are lighter. The Browning BAR 1918 is quite a fantastic rifle, fairly accurate and for its time, a really, advanced design.
