37mm Anti-Tank Gun | Big Sandy Machine Gun Shoot 2023

Jay shares some interesting history of the 37mm Anti-Tank Gun at Big Sandy Machine Gun Shoot 2023. In the early Pacific theater, the 37mm Anti-Tank Gun were more of an anti-emplacement application as they were outgunned in terms of trying to hold up against the tanks, as the tanks armor got bigger and bigger. The 37mm saw later use in WWII and was used to take out things such as pillboxes and machine gun nests. This gun, given its age, is still being fired. We are still able to find casings and various components and we do a lot of our own Custom Machining of projectiles.
The 37mm is firing out a one-and-a-half-pound projectile, at an approximate range of 2400 feet per second. That is upwards of 200,000-foot pounds of energy in comparison to a 50 BMG at 1000 foot pounds, it has a 1.25” bore size, the barrel is just over seven feet long and it weighs 900lbs and very handy to have on wheels.
