GLOCK V Pistols Already Shipped and Available

While there are still some questions surrounding the recent changes at GLOCK, the newly announced GLOCK V pistols have become available for purchase. This, of course, has brought up a lot of questions from shooters. The two main questions are: what is different and what is the same?

While GLOCK has not released much information about the Gen V pistols, some folks have gotten their hands on them. Many of these people have put out both facts and opinions about the new GLOCK V pistols. Some of the information might need to be confirmed but it does provide early looks at one of the biggest stories in the firearms world.

What’s the Same

First looks show that the GLOCK V pistols look and feel the same as the GLOCK Gen 5s. It uses the same grip angle, as well as stippling. The frames look just like previous models, but with a Gen V stamp.

The slides use the same plastic GLOCK sights and contain the same serrations. In fact, most of the slide looks just like previous GLOCK models. This should make GLOCK lovers happy, as there aren’t significant changes of the features that allow these popular pistols to be called GLOCKs.

What’s Different

The GLOCK V pistols have a lot of similarities with Gen 5. Of course, there is a reason for the change, even if that change seems pretty dumb. As such, the changes all have to do with functionality, or limiting a certain type of functionality.

The only part that is different that can be seen from the outside is the slide cover plate. Located on the back of the slide, the cover plate is a different size and shape. It also contains different size and shaped openings. All of these can be easily noticed by looking at the back of the slide.

Changes on the inside include the firing pin channel and the back of the firing pin. The back of the firing pin on the GLOCK V pistols is narrower; the rest of it looks the same. The firing pin channel is also narrower, and it has raised ridges on the side of the channel. There also seems to be some changes to the internal parts of the frame, but these are so minute that it might not even be because of the device issues.

GLOCK V Pistols

The reason for the recent GLOCK changes is well-known. Criminals are using a banned device to make the pistols illegal. It looks like GLOCK made just enough changes in the design to render these devices incompatible with the new GLOCK V pistols.

Handling it this way keeps the pistols as close as possible to the original design, while eliminating the use of these illegal devices. Everything else is the same. The new GLOCK V pistols feel and shoot the same. They even look and handle the same. They just show how firearms manufacturers are trying to prevent the illegal use of their products.
