Moving into 2025, there are a host of new modern sporting rifles that aren’t AR-15s headed to consumers including a range of interesting offerings that have been years in their journey to market.
Nebraska-based Aly & Kaufman has been working on a kit form of the British L85 (SA80) Enfield bullpup 5.56 rifle for several years and has crossed the finish line. Dubbed the AKB-23, the $850 kit is compatible with Brownells BRN180 upper receiver and includes a buffer-less bullpup lower machined from aircraft grade aluminum billet coated with MIL-A 8625 Type III hard coat anodizing or Cerakote over anodizing. The result accepts STANAG standard magazines, has a mil-spec single-stage trigger and very British-looking OD green furniture.
Based on the long-revered AK platform, Arsenal has re-imagined this classic firearm with innovative features and an updated look and feel that truly brings it into the 21st century. Officially an outgrowth of the SASM7K, the AK-20, chambered in 7.62x39mm, will be offered in large format pistol and SBR with an 8.5-inch barrel, and a 16-inch rifle format. Standard features of the rifle and SBR include a three-position gas adjuster, a Picatinny top rail, an aluminum handguard, an AR-15-type telescoping stock and a 30-round magazine.
The guys at BSD Fabworks in Lake Worth, Fla. were at the B&T Booth at SHOT Show with a VSS Vintorez clone in .300 Blackout. BSD teamed up with B&T for the suppressor element. The project is still in its infancy and BSD isn’t taking any pre-orders, but watch this space for updates.
South Korea’s SNT Motiv (formerly Daewoo Precision Industries) was at SHOT Show this year and announced they were arranging with American importers and the ATF to bring semi-auto 922-compliant sporter rifles to the U.S. later in 2025. Among these will be the K2, a classic gas piston-operated 5.56 NATO rifle formerly imported as the Max-II by Stoeger back in the 1980s. They will have 18.3-inch barrels and an estimated retail of $1,200 to $1,500.
Engineered for performance and effortless operation, the Daniel Defense PCC (pistol caliber carbine) 916 is the ultimate combination of precision, speed and versatility. Built and backed by the most trusted name in firearms around the AR platform. This easy-shooting rifle provides the ergonomics and controls to meet any shooter’s (left- or right-handed) needs with a fully ambidextrous charging handle, selector, mag release and bolt catch. It features a legendary Daniel Defense 16-inch cold-hammer forged barrel that’s extremely durable and provides great ballistics for the ubiquitous, cost-effective 9mm rounds it fires, so shots consistently hit their mark. The PCC916 is compact and lightweight and also features a free-floating, 13.5-inch DD4 rail with popular M-LOK attachment for accommodating lights, sling mounts and a vertical foregrip.
As a bit of history, the FN FAL battle rifle gave the M14 a bit of competition in the early 1950s with the Army’s Springfield Armory developed M14 getting the nod, naturally, for the U.S. contract. As part of that program, High Standard and Harrington & Richardson (H&R) made a small batch of about 513 guns domestically in America in conjunction with FN as a proof-of-concept.
Fast forward to 2025 and H&R, a brand now owned by PSA and run by Mike Welland of NoDakSpud fame, has one of the old T48s in their possession and is reverse engineering it for a limited run. Mike was on hand at PSA’s booth with the gun to talk about the plans, while DSA Arms — who is working with H&R on the program — had one as well.

The latest update from HK-USA to the commercial market of the legendary HK416, the MR556 A4 in 5.56 NATO, represents an enhanced example of “no compromise” HK performance. Not a typical AR-15, it uses a short-stroke, gas-piston operating system that does not impart hot carbon fouling back into the action, allowing the rifle to run longer with less maintenance and less wear on internal components than direct-impingement ARs. Its two-position, adjustable-gas regulator allows the operator to tune the action specifically for suppressed or unsuppressed operation. Fully ambidextrous controls, lighter weight and slimmer profile make the new A4 easier to operate, manipulate and employ.
The latest update from HK-USA to the commercial market of the legendary HK417, the MR762 A4 in 7.62 NATO represents an enhanced example of “no compromise” HK performance. Not a typical AR-10, it uses a short-stroke, gas-piston operating system that does not impart hot carbon fouling back into the action, allowing the rifle to run longer with less maintenance and less wear on internal components than direct-impingement ARs. Its two-position, adjustable-gas regulator allows the operator to tune the action specifically for suppressed or unsuppressed operation. Fully ambidextrous controls, lighter weight and slimmer profile make the new A4 easier to operate, manipulate and employ.
Texas-based Insight Armory has been working on developing an American-made Dragunov SVD at an attainable price. They came to SHOT Show this year with pre-production models and promised to have production up and running before the end of the year at a $3,999 price point for the 7.62x54R semi-auto rifle.
The 308 JAKL is launching for 2025, and it will be configured in a 14.5-inch barrel in black or FDE. This platform is built around a 6061 monolithic rifle-length upper receiver designed to be compatible with the PSA PA-10 Gen 3 lower receiver. There will be a choice of two pin and welded flash-hider/suppressor mount options — SilencerCo ASR and DeadAir KeyMo. Further, there will be two stock options, B&T and F5. All models will have a Magpul grip, an EPT trigger, a 20-round PMAG, a knurled charging handle, an eight-position gas block for suppressor tuning and a long-stroke gas piston system.
Palmetto State Armory is updating the piston-driven JAKL, which will bring a proprietary lower into the mix — no more traditional AR lowers — as well as other updates. Tentatively dubbed the JAKL 2.0 or JAKL G2, the next generation of the rifle will still have a new AXR stock, grip and reduced weight. The company listened to customer feedback and made changes to the design, including a slimmer profile, a spring-loaded folding charging handle and the capability to execute an easier barrel swap. The Jackal 2.0 will be available in 5.56 and 300 Blackout calibers.
Announced in 2024 as a concept gun with an ode to the AEK-971 and AKV-521, the VUK is designed with a monolithic upper similar to the JAKL that brings modernized and improved ergonomics and aesthetics to the AK. Using PSA’s rock-and-lock AK magazines, an AR-style trigger pack and a Sure Shot folding stock, it will eventually be available in 5.56, 7.62×39, 5.45×39, 9×39 and as a 12-gauge shotgun. It will also have a Warsaw Pact-style bayonet lug, something the JAKL is lacking.
Palmetto says the VUK will “soon” be in production and is expected later this year, likely Q4. Sorry no pricing or specs currently.

The Rogue receiver set has been hard anodized black in color and features a 15-inch M-LOK Handguard. The BASE rifle gives you a lightweight, reliable firearm that can be upgraded at any time.
The Thompson Auto-Ordnance TAO50 in .50 BMG is a bolt-action behemoth. It uses patent-pending roller bearing bolt and muzzle brake designs, coupled with a rugged black or flat dark earth anodized finish ensures durability and perfect performance. The TAO50 has a precision 29-inch barrel boasting a 1:15 twist rate along with a Magpul PRS Gen 3 stock, MOE+ grip and Timney AR-style trigger. Equipped with an Accu-Tac bipod for stability, this rifle weighs in at 25.5 pounds with an overall length of 61 inches.
The Zev Technologies Folding Defensive Platform, or FDP, stays locked, compact and concealable wherever you want for storage and transport. It deploys quickly and it’s immediately ready for employment, providing a stable, maneuverable firing platform that’s easy to operate. It’s also ambidextrous, so everyone can get in on the folding gun action. The Magpul polymer body stands up to the roughest treatment and handling, and it’s also completely corrosion-resistant, while the 4140 steel Zev internals, based on the OZ9 handgun, are coated in protective black nitride.
The FDP was designed for both professional and personal use, and it will be available in both a pistol and an SBR carbine variant from Zev Technologies in early 2025.
