Very rare limited production Colt 1911 MK IV/Series 70 Government Model from the Colt Custom Shop. Only 100 of these Colt Mark IV Gov .45 ACP were made! According to the GunBroker.com listing, item 990473365, this Custom Colt Pistol is a classic series 70 (no firing pin safety) that has been thoroughly reworked from the Colt Factory. It’s chambered in .45 ACP and features a 5″ National Match barrel, stainless steel bead blast finish, Novak plain black rear sight with a Trijicon front night sight, extended thumb safety, memory bump beavertail, skeletonized trigger, skeletonized hammer, factory Colt logo G10 grips, and was manufactured in 2016. Factory part number: 01070A1CS-C. The product listing also notes that this particular Colt 1911 MK IV/Series 70 Government Model is not legal for sale to residents of California.
The Colt 1911 Custom Competition is a semi-automatic, full-size, metal frame Series 70 Competition pistol, assembled by the Master Gunsmiths in the Colt Custom Shop. Chambered in 38 Super, it features 9 Rounds, a fully blended Magwell, 25 LPI front strap checkering, 5″ National Match Barrel, and Novak Adjustable Sights.

The rarest Colt Government Model to ever come out of the Colt Custom Shop is the Colt Camo Companion. One of these went up for sale on GunBroker.com with item number 989271960. The Colt Camo Companion features the original factory Camo Z Cote finish, 5″ barrel, 45 ACP cartridge, and a set of factory original Colt Custom Shop Camo grips with Gold Colt medallions. According to the GunBroker.com product listing, the sale includes the factory original Colt maroon heritage style box with styrofoam insert, manual, paperwork, hangtag, 1x Original Colt magazine, Colt Archive Letter, and original end label.
The accompanying Colt Archive Letter states that the pistol left the Colt factory on December 30th, 1987, and was shipped to Davidson Supply Company in Greensboro, North Carolina. According to the seller’s research, it was built for only one year in 1987 with the special serial number CAMO115. This Colt Camo Companion came out of the Colt Custom Shop with only 150 Camo Government Models ever made, this one being #115.
This Colt Gold Cup National Match, Series 70, MK IV went up for sale on GunBroker.com with item number 982727143. Chambered in 45 ACP, it features a 5″ blue barrel, factory D engraved and Colt Custom Shop ivory grips. According to the listings, the sale includes a Colt Leatherette presentation case and a Colt Archive Letter.

This Colt Model S Huntsman pistol was listed on GunBroker.com with item 983330469. The product listing states: This Colt semi-automatic target pistol is an extremely rare, 1 of 400 mfg factory Colt Custom “Master’s Edition” Model “S” Huntsman. Chambered in 22LR, it features a 4.5″ barrel, blue finished, is factory gold engraved/embellished, has adjustable rear sight, blade front sight, manual safety, slide release, precision trigger, 10-round Colt marked magazine, and deluxe checkered wood grips with the raised thumb section for a right-handed shooter. The pistol is housed in the Colt Custom Shop smooth wood hinged lid display case with a blue velvet-like lining, Colt Custom emblem in the bottom right corner, and the Master’s Edition plaque in the center.

Only 250 of these were manufactured, all in 1980, making this a scarce commemorative. It is beautifully embellished and a Colt Series ’70 to boot! Chambered in .45 ACP, it features a 5” barrel, factory original blue & gold plate finish, fixed blade front sight and the rear sight is a square notch, flat top sight also set into a dovetail. The grips are Colt Custom Shop oiled smooth wood panels. Only wood grain and handling marks can be seen. The Overall Condition of this handgun is that it retains about 99% of its metal finish. There is some discoloration at the rear sight and minor wear from handling and clearing the action. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are crisp. Overall, this handgun rates in about Excellent condition, according to the product listing. Serial Number: 59882B70. This Sam Colt Commemorative Government Model MK IV Series 70 was listed on GunBroker.com under item 988936046. It sold on June 11, 2023, for $993.88 after 27 bids.

This Rare Colt Custom Shop Colt Defender “Lightweight” Talo Edition was listed on GunBroker.com with item number 991826332. It features the factory special ordered blue and satin nickel finish, 3″ barrel, 45 ACP cartridge and a set of factory original Hogue wrap around rubber grips in perfect condition as well as a set of checkered rosewood grips. According to the product listings, it comes with the factory original Colt blue clamshell box with manual, paperwork, hangtag, two original magazines and the original end label. According to the seller’s research, it was built in 1998 wearing serial number DR72204. This pistol was special ordered from the Colt Custom Shop by Talo Inc. with a very limited number ever made!

The Consecutive Serial Numbered Match, Set of Colt “McCormick Factory Racer” Government Model 1911 Custom Shop Semi-Automatic 45 ACP Pistols, have serial numbers MFR112 and MFR111. According to the seller, only 500 pistols were produced in 1994 for Lew Horten. FEATURES: Each Gun has: a 5″ match barrel, match trigger, three-dot sights, 8-round magazine, full-size 1911, Colt Combat grips, and hard chrome finish. CONDITION: Factory new unfired with the original hard cases and original cardboard boxes with all the factory paperwork.
