EXCLUSIVE, RARE, LOW SERIAL NUMBERED GUNS
Auction Ends 10PM EST March 23 2025

Dick Metcalf, renown gun writer who passed away and who’s rare firearm collection is being auction on GunBroker.com, had a collection of fine long guns. Most think of Dick Metcalf as a handgunner. He was surely that and then some, but he also enjoyed long guns. Being a lefty, some of his favorites from Remington, Kimber of Oregon and Blaser this collection includes wrong-sided bolts. Even the sole shotgun ejects left. Included are several of Metcalf favorites including MSRs, premium varminters and a Sauer 202 takedown with such outstanding wood that Dick one remarked it was “…the one rifle I own that is too beautiful to take hunting.”

Sportsman’s Legacy is proud to present a personal collection of some of the most cherished firearms ever manufactured with VIP and low serial numbers from Dick Metcalf himself. Dick Metcalf influenced the shooting and hunting worlds for the better and his contributions are certain to stand the test of time. A Certificate of Authenticity signed by George Metcalf (brother) will be included with every firearm purchased from this collection.

DICK METCALF: P. Richard “Dick” Metcalf (1946-2023) spent the majority of his adult life participating in and profoundly influencing the shooting and hunting industry. For over 40 years, his features and columns were cornerstones of publications such as Guns & Ammo, Handguns, Petersen’s Hunting and of course Shooting Times. Dick also hosted several cable television shows associated with these publications.

Upon graduation from Northwestern University, Dick was drafted into the United States Army where he attained the rank of E6/Ranger Airborne. At the conclusion of his service, he entered Yale University and earned a PHD in History. Dick taught history at both Yale and Cornell, then decided to pursue a career as a gun writer. This decision impacted millions, for Dick became the generational pioneer of long-range handgunning and handgun hunting while making vital contributions to the designs of both handguns and modern sporting rifles. He authored more exclusive gun reviews than any other writer and always did things his way—exercising a bone-dry sense of humor, keeping an eye cocked toward history and following his unique and unwavering sense of purpose.
